Lemish

Lemish is a human land that is bordered by Solamnia in the west and north, Throt in the east, and New Sea in the south. Its major geographical features are the Southern Dargaard Mountains on its eastern border, Godsfell Woods on the northeast corner, the Darkwoods are a large forest that take up most of the land, and the Garnet Mountains on its southwestern border with Solamnia. Seventy-five percent of the land is covered in thick forests.

The Great Seven Gods Highway brought a lot of trade through Lemish prior to the Cataclysm. It entered into Lemish from the south and went east to Sanction. At least one Grand Master even hailed from this Solamnic province in 1634 PC by the name of Gregori uth Telan. The nation was ruled by the Dictator of Lemish.

History[]

Age of Dreams[]

Before the Cataclysm struck Krynn, Lemish was a part of the Empire of Ergoth. As the Empire slowly decayed following the Rose Rebellion, Lemish joined the nation of Solamnia in order to better protect itself. This was a move of protection, not a popular one by the populace. They went from a feudal system that had been around for generations, to giving the power to the populace instead. Time and again the region rose up against Solamnia, but was always put down. The people never forgave the Solamnics for not allowing them to govern how they saw fit, and hold a grudge even to current times.

Just prior to the Cataclysm, Lemish again betrayed the Solamnics. They made a pact with the hobgoblin tribes of Estwilde to invade Solamnia through their lands. The Battle of Blackblood was fought at Solanthus, and the Solamnics won and wanted to invade. Solamnia was in a fierce battle with Ergoth by this time, and were only able to hold a stalemate with Lemish instead of fighting two battles at once. The stalemate was finally broke when the Cataclysm struck Krynn.

Age of Despair[]

Following the Cataclysm Lemish was completely cut off from Ergoth, and built port cities to capitalize on the sudden appearance of the Newsea at their southern border. The Lemish people continued to blame the Solamnics to the north, while they just tried to survive.

Solamnia has tried to annex Lemish multiple times after the Cataclysm, yet have continually been driven back by the Lemish natives. At one point the Lemish goaded the Nerakans and the Solamnics into a war that lasted fifty years. These became known as the Nerakan Wars. One other conflict of note that took place between the Knights of Solamnia and Lemish was The Outcrying. This was the conflict that the Knights of Solamnia call The Rebellion. The areas of Lemish, Southlund, and Solamnia, were led by Ragnell of the Sieges and fought into the heart of Solamnia. Vingaard Keep fell to her forces along with Castle Brightblade, Castle di Caela, and Castle Jochanan in the year 335 AC.

During the War of the Lance, Lemish allied with the forces of the Dark Queen in order to be able to attack Solamnia. Their forces led the attacks against Garnet, Caergoth, and Solanthus, but were repelled from invading Kayolin. According to Tasslehoff's Map Pouch: The War of the Lance | Dragonlance Wiki | Fandom, Lemish contributed the Flying Citadel | Dragonlance Wiki | Fandom of Castle Ulgurmere to the War of the Lance.

Shortly before the Chaos War, Solamnic Knights were allowed into Lemish lands to protect it. A garrison was kept at Fangoth, but when Dark Knights attacked the city, they defeated the Solamnics in the Battle of Fangoth Field. For the next several years, Lemish would be held by the Dark Knights. They would replace Lord Tyrian as the nation's leader (who had led since 301 AC), and put Lord Laobert in power.

Age of Mortals[]

Sir Burnond Everride was responsible for the fall of Lemish, and had to put up with still resistance fighters. He took a heavy handed approach to them, and killed any that were captured. In 384 AC, the Council of Last Heroes met and Solamnia was allowed to have Lemish in exchange. Solamnia did not move into the lands until sometime after 388 AC, since Sir Everride was still in power in that year.

When the Solamnics finally took possession of Lemish, Genia Castlemore became the Senior Knight in Lemish. They wouldn't stay long though, because the nation was invaded by ogre hordes sometime after 414 AC.

This would continue until after the War of Souls, when even more numbers of goblins, hobgoblins, and ogres moved into the Lemish lands. During Ankhar's War, the half-giant would use Lemish as his place to gain reinforcements and supplies. They would even retreat back into these lands after being defeated by the Knights of Solamnia. As of 430 AC, Lemish is still controlled by these dark forces, while almost all humans have been driven out.
